Trends in Social Media for 2015

If we had only a couple of big social networks out there, the jobs of social media managers would be much easier. But over the last one to two years the digital landscape has been separating. A recent study states that one quarter of the world’s population uses social media. This means that 1,730,000,000 people are posting, pinning, tweeting, vining and instagraming. And every 60 seconds 4.7 million posts are uploaded to Tumblr; 277,000 snaps are shared on Snapchat; and more than five million videos are viewed on YouTube.  That is a lot of time spent on social media.  More than ever organizations have to be on their toes keeping up to date with the latest and greatest developments.
Here are some trends happening in 2015 and are worth taking a look at. The social advertising trend from 2014, where Snapchat’s had its first ad, video ads on Instagram, and auto-play video ads on Facebook will continue this year.

THE REVOLUTION OF MOBILE
More effectively than any other network, mobile lets organizations create a journey through SMS, push notifications or in-app product recommendations. With technological progress organizations should put mobile apps at the core of their marketing activities reaching consumers with timely and highly contextual messages on a one-to-one basis. Seeing a worldwide mobile penetration of 93%, major social networks are continually improving their mobile presence. Social websites and apps being among the most used features on mobile, 2015 will see optimized web and social media sites becoming the norm.

SOCIAL VIDEO

Social video is up and coming holding two major benefits for organizations. First, audio-visual storytelling is emotionally compelling so share your story and to present training material. Secondly, blogs are a great way of getting your message in front of your audience.

  1. I am not surprised by the study data you provided. When we first started this class I was shocked at all the different avenues there were. I believe it was the first week of class when the professor had us sign up for our eBook assignment and I didn’t know what half of the list even was. My 16 year old is always snap chatting so I compute that to it must be popular right now. Having a smart phone has definitely helped me get connected with social media and has helped with this class as well.

  2. Kathy,
It's amazing what social media has to offer! We can send a video across the world, email a document in a nano second, and share news on Facebook and Twitter. We can also obtain instruction from Youtube and video chat with multiple friends on the other side of the United States. Technology is truly amazing but with power comes responsibility. Young kids are using social media to exploit pornography and nudity. They're also using videos to record violence. I don't know if there is anything we can do about this growing issue but Twitter can start by censoring some of the content posted.
